The Context Studies Event in Belgrade
On Friday 24th of January 2014 Center for Cultural Decontamination in cooperation with the following organizations: YUROM Centar from Niš, Sent from Novi Pazar and Active Region from Subotica, presented the first program of the project “The Context Studies: The Diversity of the Diversity” in Belgrade.
The event started at 18:00 in Center for Cultural Decontamination with the performance “Enemy of the people as a didactic play (Ibsen with Brecht, a partiture for a composer, two actors and a director)” started with the performance being integrated to the audience itself creatively “using” it as a backdrop. The performance opened the floor for the presentation of “The theater scenes which evoke the public, Theme 3: Brecht as a method, mentor: Zlatko Paković.

Presentation of the program of the project “The Context Studies: the Diversity of the Diversity” and the call for participation in the first year: “Introduction to alternative models of production” followed under the provoking question: “What shall we do?”. Introduction to “The Context Studies” by Borka Pavićević and Aleksandra Sekulić.
After Saša’s Ćirić (mentor of “Writing in public: polemics and translation, Theme 1: Translation as a cultural form”) short introduction, a discussion among Saša Ćirić (Beton, Belgrade), Attila Sirbik (Symposion, Subotica), Enes Halilović (Sent, Novi Pazar) and the audience followed. The discussion was in Serbian and Hungarian.
Ognjen Glavonić (mentor of “Self-organized production, Theme 2: Youth cultures”) announced the screening of the documentary film:
“Živan makes a punk festival” (2013), featuring: Živan Pujić.

The film depicted the passion and dedication of a young man to what he believes in the most; music and the organization of a punk festival in a village in Republic of Serbia. Enthusiasm and frustration, ups and downs, reality and ideation were presented in such a fresh and youthful way accombined by a great soundtrack and opened the floor for discussion between the young excited audience and the director.
The initiative “Proza na putu” and the youth organizations from Uzice attended the event and invited the program to visit their city although it is not connected to the project scheme.
The members of the Council of the Context Studies (prof. Milena Dragićević Šešić, Dejan Ilić, Srbijanka Turajlić, Mladen Đorđević, Saša Ilić, Attila Sirbik, Branislav Dimitrijević, Predrag Brebanović, Snežana Skoko, Ružica Marjanović, Ana Vujanović, Vesna Milosavljević Nikola Dedić, Ivana Aleksić) have also attended the program.
Since the local context of the event was the ongoing workers’ protest in Belgrade and the revolt of independent cultural organizations towards the policy of the Ministry of Culture in terms of non-transparent process of joining the program Creative Europe, the event ended with a fruitful discussion connecting the themes of the “Context Studies” and performance’s messages with real life events.
